This is a handwritten draft of the original MS, described by Herbert Campbell in his Introduction to “The Manuscript History of Craignish” in the “Miscellany of the Scottish History Society”, volume IV, (1926) page 177, as made “rather more than a century ago, but the transcriber, finding the narrative so involved as to be somewhat unclear threw the whole thing into modern parlance. This transcript I have not seen, and I merely mention the fact to account for the probable existence of a different version; for I understand that Major Eddington or his descendants made and distributed a few copies of his transcript”.

Includes a loose sheet with the name and address “Miss Eddington, Maitland Street” inside the front cover. It has a different ending to Herbert Campbell’s published version (pages 253-254 in the “Miscellany”)
