The Argyll Papers are the archives of the Campbell family, Dukes of Argyll, and date from the 13th to the 21st centuries. Described by Prof Allan Macinnes as 'one of the most important private archives in Britain', the archives record the political importance of the Campbell family and the development and administration of their extensive estates in the west of Scotland.

This catalogue was established online in 2017, during the Heritage Lottery Funded (HLF) Written in the Landscape project, and the archivist is grateful for the financial support from the HLF for this project which enabled cataloguing by project archivist and volunteers.
